Thread: D3 HSE additional stereo speakers, is it possible?

To do a Logic7 retrofit 100% like the factory in a D3 is quite an involved job.

The regular Harman Kardon is actually 8 speakers + dual voice coil subwoofer, so it's often called 10-speaker, in reality it's 9 speaker.

The Logic7 is called 14-speaker because it has an additional 5x 100mm midrange speakers; 1x in the dash, 2x in the front doors, 2x in the d-pillars.

The front doors are missing the 100mm midrange speakers in the regular HK system, and missing the speaker grilles as well, so you need to swap out the door cards for ones from Logic7 donor car, as well as add a pair of wires through the connectors in the door jamb to each front door. Because in the HK system there is only one channel going to the front doors, in the Logic7 there are two channels. Even if you leave out the front door midrange speakers, you still need to modify the wiring to the doors.

Need to modify the wiring in the front doors themselves to add the midrange, and separate the bass and tweeter.

The channel assignments are different between the HK and L7 amps too, so the connectors at the amp need to be re-pinned.

The wiring for the surround speakers is missing as well, but that's not too hard to do, pretty much same as the later models and i've done a dozen of them now.

It can be done, but not as cheap/easy as the later models. I could do it in a day I reckon.

Actually I have a pile of the Logic7 100mm midrange speakers here and the illusive connectors for them, which you cannot buy as spares.
