Yeah, that salt in England is a real killer. Hope that never comes here.
Rust is a non-issue for Australian D3s and D4s other than the usual hose rinsing after beach driving. I’ve not read one forum post on the subject in 5 years or when I’ve searched further back than that. UK is a very different story as Jeff mentioned.
For servicing I would be changing any fluid not included in the service. From memory diff oil is on some very long change period that seems risky for such a small volume. And the transmission fluid as already mentioned.

would you care to elaborate on the "grease everything" comment as I'm about to head off on a road trip for a few months, didn't think modern cars had grease points? I haven't had mine serviced lately, but I will be checking brake linings, oil change and filters etc, and maybe diff oil too. Thanks.
