Most dealer map updates are around 2 years out of date, if you're lucky. A friend went to update the GPS on her Commodore. Was told $850, (approximately), and that was for a 2016 dated "update"
Does anyone know timing for new GPS Map update release? I own 2014 Disco 4 with factory maps - it seems well out of date.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.

I remember specifically wanting the D4 with the larger screen so I would have GPS. I could count on one hand how many times I’ve used it, so out of date and doesn’t have traffic etc
much easier to use my iPhone, always updated
I would still love a perpetual agreement to the warning screen for maps though if anyone knows how to do that yet?!

SubscriberI also recently had a look for this most recent update available is Version 20 which is 4 versions out of date. I think it’s a 2014 update. Rubbish JLR support. My daughter just brought a Kia which has lifetime free updates

I recently purchased a used Disco 3 that has an aftermarket Panasonic audio/sat Nav system, which includes Apple CarPlay, so I just connect my phone and have the latest maps available.
The inbuilt SatNav is meant to updatable with an app, although I couldn't find the right version for my unit. Once I worked out I had CarPlay I didn't bother trying to work it out.
Replacing your whole hole unit may be an option vs. dealing with LR for updates.
Why would you bother? The factory satnav is absolute rubbish
I just bought the HEMA maps app for my iPhone / iPad and I’m blown away with its functionality

SubscriberI gave up on the built in GPS ages ago. $2000 for an update DVD, forget it. I have a phone holder , use my S10+ with Sygic
Far better. Run the auto app and listen to Spotify at the same time. JLR have lifted their game on the LR5.
I have the same vintage D4 as you with factory Sat Nav.
I quite like it generally speaking but don't think the map update worthwhile given that it's fine as is for 99% of places I use it.
I run the Hema 4WD maps for outback/remote travels.
There's some details in the thread linked below regarding map updates, although I'm not 100% sure if the method is the same for the MY14+ system.
