Thread: D3 Brake controller wiring

OK I've run the service brake wire all the way to the plug on the bumper, that's all good.
I realize I need to snip the brown wire, all good.

Do I need to run the brake light signal wire from the rear fuse compartment or can I use the pickup from the glovebox area as shown on my diagram? If I pick it up from there what would be the consequence and do I still need to do the diode thing?

Can someone draw me something a bit clearer regarding the diode placement? I've seen blurred photos and not-so-obvious diagrams but nothing I can follow, thanks in advance

Pick up the brake signal from the rear. The diode? ---No one has properly explained why it is needed or highlighted what happens should it fail.

I still can't seem to locate the hi res photo of Sneigy's which would explain a bit more of the diode situation, but i can't read the writing on the low res image!

Diode placement (photo 1)

1. In the first picture does the diode go in position 1? (between grey plug going into wiring loom) or position 2 near fuse box?
2. Is the orientation/polarity of the diode correct?

Snip brown wire (photo 2)

1. Snip brown wire, does the fuse end connect to anything? just tape it up?
2. Will it affect anything (ie brake/tail lights function) if I, as planned, run the blue wire all the way down to the trailer plug at the bumper??

Does this look correct??

Read past the first photo as there is clarification on the position of the diode. The first photo has the diode on the red wire ....that is wrong. Imo your wiring diagram makes sense as you have put the diode on the green car wire. The diode should be placed 'upstream' of the cut - i.e. the hot end of the wire. If unsure this can verified with a multimeter and a brick on the brake pedal. Don't worry if you place the diode the wrong way around. it'll tell you pretty quickly as your brake lights won't work, no harm done, just reverse it.
