The warning light has come on at 60kay and as I’m in Broome where they don’t like working on anything but Tojos, just like most towns in WA, I thought I’d try to leave them until back in Perth soon. Anyone have any real experience of how long they will last after the light comes on?
There’s no squealing or undue wear signs on any rotor front or back.
Cheers.
AlanH.
PS. Bloke in the van next to us is driving back to Darwin for his next service as they just refused to even change the oil and filters on his Hyundai. If they can’t do even
that they are truly a bunch of useless *******.

Yep some mms of pad material left. More than enough for open road driving.
But brakes are brakes and no one should be fearful of that. I see there is a Pedders in Broome who have the full disc kit for Discos and the Akebono pads for the 2.7 models.
Repco have their ceramic range if there is one near.

IIRC 3000 kms from sensor light according to Kevin a Rover Tech. Though IIRI (if I recall incorrectly) 5000km. Having said that I've done more than 5000 without problems.

You'll have heaps of driving left, just keep an eye on them and if you don't want to replace the wear sensors just cut it off and crimp the wires together to get rid of the warning light.

Thanks for the info. all. Gives me confidence to drive back to Perth without problems.
Cheers.

I've left mine on previously for 12,000km (rears from memory) so you'll get back to Perth no issues.

Back home again and today I changed the rear pads. Easy job and certainly no different to other vehicles I've done the same thing on. In all we did about 4K with the warning light on and there was a mill. or so pad left on them.
I thought I might get away with reusing the wear sensor but can't seem to be able to cancel the warning light with my Gap tool so tomorrow I'll put the new one on.
Thnx. for the info. fellow sufferers.
AlanH.
PS. I did check Bodsy's brake bible first and found where he says for a 15mm OE spanner it actually needed a 17mm one. That was for the inner nut where you remove the bolt to allow the assembly to swing up. Otherwise he's done a great job with heaps of good stuff there for us all.
Can't reuse the sensor if its caused the warning light, as the brake rotor would have worn through the sensor copper clip, opening the circuit and causing the warning light.
Ive gone through 2 sets of pads and only 1 set of sensors as I've replaced pads before the warning light came on (i wasnt happy with the bendix pads at all). Replaced 1 sensor as i snapped the plastic clip during a pad change.
Running TRW DCotec pads and RBA slotted rotors now, very happy.
