Starting 2011 LR4 build

Hi Squigs, not sure if this helps but a month or so back, I was after engine oil for my RR and went to my local Supercheap Auto store and was trying to see which oil I needed.

An assistant ask could he help me, and I told what I was after.

He ask what engine I had in the RR and not being sure ( I wouldn’t have a clue ) he then suggested he could get the correct info.

He asked for my rego number and pumped it into the computer and he had all the info needed for the correct oil.

You can go online supercheap, punch your rego in and it will tell you what oil is suitable. No need to go to the store.

My advice is to stick to an oil that meets the Ford specification. That includes a couple of the Penrite Supercheap sells as do others. The manual has the correct oil spec to use, likely M2C913B/C but do check.

I’d suggest only using 5W-30 that meets WSS-M2C913-B or C.

Interesting this.
I put in my rego, and it told me the right vehicle and engine (V6 petrol)
then it showed me the diesel engine oils for my engine!!!!!!!!!!!
Tread carefully using this tool!

Diesel oils work great in Petrol engines..

Really!!??
I thought they had different levels of detergents - but maybe i'm wrong, and maybe thats a good thing.
Dont want to hijack the thread, but would love to know more.

+1 on that front. Penrite 5W30 C4 or C1 for me (non DPF). Change the grade at your peril. These engines are close toleranced and work hard,, they need thin oil at startup, especially the turbo bearings and top end.

Correct. Higher detergent levels.
Our fleet boys also run the same oils across their Petrol and Diesel engines.

And higher heat ratings, it's also good practice to change brands every few years as they have different additive packages for cleaning, I've seen Fuchs go into a aged fleet and they ate it for about 5000ks before they cleaned out. I've also seen Valvoline super blue wash an engine nearly to death. Had to be run real hard to get it to reseal the rings but it came good and the white smoke stopped afterwards
