SupporterSo the good, the bad and the ugly about Turbos as I have learnt for the D4
Rang around some local LR indies with conflicting stories re engine needs to come out or not! one said yes other said no.
This is on a 3L with twin turbos and am referring to the primary one on pass side. 2.7L has one only turbo as far as i know.
In the end turbo was removed with no body off though they did need to remove the exhaust and front diff apparently saving time on body removal. total cost incl my purchase on new genuine turbo from Uk $1300 + fitting $2700 = $4k for a single turbo.
I did later learn from another mechanic non LR quote "pig of a job to do but we did without body off".
So there you have it, it can be done with body on though is difficult to do. Not sure about the 2ndary turbo on driver side - how difficult that one is to remove and refit a new one. Just sharing my experience on turbos.
