not wanting to to jump on the negativity bandwagon myself, the D4 SC sounds like a sweet ride to me.... Generating 340 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 332 Nm of torque at 3500-5500 rpm I’ll bet it’s no slouch.
6500, like it will ever see that. The 2.7 has 100nm more torque which is more important in these heavy buses.

    Wow. ..such negativity...shame on you.

Check out the power specs and also note same engine is used in Jag sports cars but with higher power output eg 300kws

Over 500ks it averaged 13 l per 100ks with some heavy foot use at times.

On the same hill my TD5 maxes out at 100kph. The D4 hit 160 and rising.. so yes it goes very well.

I am stunned given the diesel issues they did not sell more of them..only 3 from 2000 in 2014. So yes they are rare and yes it has the 8 speed plus lots of goodies eg panoramic cameras. . Upgrade sound system ediff and so on.

Engine is Ford based so lots of use in other makes and so they say it is reliable. Main issue is water pump failures...now resolved. Plastic coolant line fatigue causing minor leaks and supercharger coupling rattle at high ks. All easily fixed by a home trained LR mechanic like me!

Towing and off road I'd expect 15- 16 l/100klms. Much the same as a cruiser but so much more driveable and so much cheaper to buy. Don't care if it is higher cause I saved over 10k on the normal purchase price!

Best car I've ever driven by far😎

Oh and it towed the arse of a tipper trailer with 3 tonnes of firewood on it and yes it revs to the red line.

I'm afraid you are talking out of your nether regions.

Think I'll quit this forum 😐

My apologies, It was an off the cuff comment & I wasn’t intending to offend. The forum is a great place for discussion/info, and so would encourage you to stay around.

I appears that several people have don’t quite know what a D4 SC is.

    Released in Australia in MY14 (Last available as a MY16), so it was only ever available with the 8-speed auto, as a SCV6 SE or SCV6 HSE. A 3.0l (2995cc) V6 supercharged & intercooler petrol engine, 250Kw (335BHP) @ 6500rpm and 450Nm (332lbft) 3500-5000rpm.

    Enjoy your D4 INter674.

Wow no need to be a sook, if the specs Kelvo put up are correct then 450nm is a lot better than 330 but still its a small high revving petrol engine in a heavy brick.
Glad you like it but it wont suit most users here and the sales ( or lack there of ) obviously reflect that.

Who asked whether it would suit users here? There are lots of things that suit different people but they can still be discussed in a civil way.

It sounds like a great car. I didn't even know it existed in Australia.

Why is it often the diesel owner says the petrol is or would be a slouch? There’s numerous comments made across forums about the D3 petrol v6 being slow and gutless. I suppose what ones intended use is. If your towing consistently vs city traffic/ highway runs. What are the D3 diesels 0-100 times? 12+ seconds or so? The v6 petrol 10+ seconds?
How could the supercharged petrol D4 ever be thought of as slow? In comparison to the 2.7 or 3 litre diesel? Im sure stop start traffic & highway runs it would likely be a fantastic engine.

    Okay enuf of the carping!!

I wished I'd never posted this thread now.

Diesels are fine if you get a good one...petrols IMHO are more reliable. ..I've got both and the diesel service and repair cost are generally higher.

We wanted a D4 but were strongly advised by experts not to buy the diesel unless a full warranty was on hand and stories of catastrophic failures abound.

In so far as revs..the V6 sC is so much smoother than a diesel can ever be. It is silent at idle. ...no vibrations...and at revs only a slight sc whine is evident. No need to increase the audio volume no matter what speed.

More importantly.. the wife loves it😎

So b off you harbingers of doom. Enjoy your TDs and I'll enjoy my revvy but silent rocket ship!
