    Glad you like it but it wont suit most users here and the sales ( or lack there of ) obviously reflect that.
    It’s not a small engine, it’s a 3.0 litre - same displacement as the diesels. More KW, less NM. Given that it has a supercharger I’d seriously doubt that it’s high-revving.

    I did also have a hard look at these, there have been some nice ones around and they’re also all that’s available in Japan.

    Mmm..it revs..that's for sure!

    Sales figures prolly affected by a couple of factors eg. Past belief that a diesel will be cheaper to run. Perhaps this view is changing with the issues emerging with modern diesel engines plus the high price of diesel.

    A second factor is the myth that petrol is no good for the big trip cause you can't get it in the outback. Interestingly on a trip 2 years ago we found petrol at every fuel stop inc premium.

    The 100 series LS had no issues filling up. Yes it cost him but he'd chucked the diesel in favour of LS grunt and reliability. He toured Aus every year for 6 to 18 weeks in it and..still does.

    A third factor with the Disco is that the TD is a great performer so buyers prolly opt for that version based on first impressions. But of course the TD may become problematic in the longer term.

    I predict petrols will become the engine of choice in the near future. Time will tell I guess😎

    It's a very nice vehicle and truly a shame they weren't pushed in this market.
    Every late model LR4 in the USA had this driveline and the owners love them.

    JLR went all-in on diesel and with the wisdom of hindsight, it was probably a misjudgement to not give the buyers the choice for petrol.
    A while back I was looking at replacing our old Freelander2 with a new Discovery Sport, and JLRA simply would not sell me a petrol in an HSE Lux spec, even as a special order, even though it was available in other markets.
    In the end the Freelander went and was replaced with a CX5 of all things, because petrol + all the options she wanted, which couldn't be had in a petrol Disco Sport.

    Couple of things to mention;

    - Take the official service schedule and halve it, 26'000kms on one sump of oil is just too much, make it 13'000kms or even 10'000 for nice round numbers.
    - Make regular checks of the oil level (in the instrument cluster) and keep it topped up to the max.
    - If you have the car serviced check the oil level before accepting the car back, see that it has been properly filled to the max, but not overfilled.

    Yeah, it's all about the oil with these petrol motors, but keep it well maintained and it will serve you well for many years.

    Totally agree re the service intervals..I have been halving them for all our cars for years. Oil is cheap!

    I have a supercharged verado outboard. I have used most of the makes and nothing comes close to the smooth, down low linear torque from a supercharger. Unbeatable. The petrol makes it very quiet too. Didn’t know the D4 could be had with the supercharged petrol version when I bought my 2014 TDV6 or I would have been all over it. Great choice.
    People dismiss the big Patrol but it’s light years ahead of the cruiser in spec and comfort at a fraction of the price. And what a sound!

    Many dismiss the patrol cause it uses more fuel and won't tow 3T as nicely as the 200. The SCv6 would suffer the same fate here in AUS.

    Apparently, in practice the gap in fuel usage isn’t as large as you might presume - I think that one of the 4WD magazines found the same thing.

    From memory when unladen on the open hwy the Landcruiser turned out only about 1 or 2Lph better than the Patrol which I agree is nothing since diesel nearly costs as much as 95. But in city traffic or under heavy tow or slow off-road that gap would widen guaranteed.

    Newer patrols are better again on fuel use and not far off the Cruiser. The Patrol is by all accounts more reliable too.

    Not sure why some say the 3l SC suffers eg on towing. It does not! Tow reports back in the day verify this with comments such as the 2.5t van made little difference to the engines get up and go.

    Mate's Cruiser with 3t van up in Qld currently is getting @20l/100ks ar a steady 80-90 kph. He spoke with many other owners (they are everywhere up there ) and they report similar consumption.

    Thing is between the cruiser and van and all the fruit he's in for @200k so fuel use is not something he worries about too much.

    Beer prices.. and meat prices. Well That's another thing!
