    ZF transmission service

    Hi brains trust,

About to service my ZF on the D3 with LG6 and I'm trying to find info on the amount of ATF I need to replace with a standard drain and fill? Can someone help with the ZF service drop and fill capacity please i.e how many litres?

    Thanks in advance.

Varies! If you simply drain and refill then it’s around 6L, give or take a litre. I’ve had between 5 & 6.5L each time. If you do the pan you can get another litre or so.

If you want to do a good flush then get 20L and drain and fill three times to get most of the old stuff out through dilution. There are various options around disconnecting pipes to coolers to get more out etc if you do a dig in the forums.

Pretty sure the 6HP26 and 6HP28 have the same capacity. From the data i have, 10.3l for a full fill, this includes the torque converter. Full flush is recommended plus filter and pan gasket replacement. A 20l drum is enough for a flush-3-4 litres to waste, then fill.

Penrite BMV is also a suitable fluid. 50000km on mine running BMV no issues.
