    Impotent windscreen washers

Anyone with D3/4 had less than satisfactory washer output? I’ve been battling hoses that keep detaching under the bonnet, using cable ties to keep them in place, however the output is now pretty lethargic. I’ve pinned out the nozzles to ensure they’re clean. On each side one stream makes it to the windscreen but the other is mostly a dribble. No noticeable fluid loss elsewhere to lead me to believe a leak is present.

I’m thinking of a new washer bottle motor and maybe a new under bonnet hose kit.

What have you used as a water source for filling it?
Sounds like blockage and pump wear.

More thought, and the failing hoses.
Have you replaced the hoses at all? Do your headlight washers work ok?

I’m thinking your hoses may have degraded internally and blocking the jets?

Everything is original. I think the hoses are tired as they are losing their health as they’re slipping off without ties. I think I’ll just replace nozzles, unde bonnet hose and pump and be done with it. It’s under $100 for all the bits. Not sure on the headlight ones TBH. Will have to check them too.

Only intermittently and then only on one sprayer nozzle on the drivers side. A clean out with a needle works everytime. Headlight washers fine. Might replace the hoses as they're all still original. Have got 15m of dayco vacuum hose on order, so good timing. I have used std tap water and a mix of methylated spirits before, but more recently just water and a dash of Bug-Off. The new windscreen was cleaned with RainEx by the installer and fitted new wipers (Bosch flexblade) at the same time. They skipped because I had RainEx diluted in the washer bottle as well, but all good after a month or so.

So I avoided tap water to try and minimise chemical residue such as lime and calcium and yet still I have issues.

I’ll report back next year when I order bits and pieces.

Never gave that a thought actually. Our water is pretty good. Just for "s#$ts and giggles" I might pull the washer pump out and have a captain cook.

Having said that, I used only demin water when i flushed the cooling system last December...
