SDV6 Rocker gasket leak

I will monitor closely especially on my travels. Will be in contact with the dealer once they reopen from the silly season regarding LCAÂ’s. (I contacted the dealer the day after the warranty ran out on the bushes which they had replaced 366 days prior)which they have all but accepted is their responsibility. They advised they would submit a goodwill case to JLR.

At the same time I will probe a response regarding throttle body leak, canÂ’t hurt. Otherwise parts will be ordered.

So this afternoon drove up the Kuranda range to Mareeba, just as I got into town heard a whack and fan vrrrm sound while leaving a junction. Immediately noticed lack of power so shut the engine off and pulled over.
Upon inspection found engine cover popped. Then noticed the discussed throttle body/housing had also popped off and hit the radiator fan.

With 3 little ones in the car and them being 30 mins overdue for dinner, the evening wasn’t looking good.

Managed to reseat o ring and clip, and drove for about 10 more minutes when it happened again. This time I used zip ties to hold the housing onto manifold intake to get us home for the night.

So my query is, is a worn o ring responsible or has the sir clip been compromised or installed incorrectly post a service? I was able to remove and reinstall the clip without hand tools. Didn’t think it was particularly high tensioned.

Its been quite a while since I had a 3.0 but isn't there meant to be a bolt in that hole?

Edit: IIRC a retaining bolt is meant to be fitted near the I/C hose connection.

Graeme, I see what your referring too. However I don’t see what a bolt there would achieve there is nothing but it’s own part to bolt to.

IIRC bits of the lip on the throttle body where the clip catches can break off. I've heard of people using large cable-ties as a temporary measure.

Noticed a bolt missing below this housing airbox. Looks like it should be about 6mm and maybe 70mm long.

Yes, there is a bolt that is meant to be there - the only bolt that holds the plenum in place. If that bolt is missing, there is a very high chance that the plenum has broken a locking grove on the throttle body and will no longer lock properly using the metal clip. Try to get a bolt in there asap to reduce any more damage and use 5mm or 6mm wide heavy duty cable ties as lighter ones can break.
I have been in a similar situation, but mine was due to a throttle housing separation, which caused the plenum bracket to bend enough that when I fitted new throttle housing, it took a few days for it to break the thin clip guide. I now run a joined pair of 6mm cable ties so that I do not have to spend another $600 or so on a new throttle housing, although I have now straightened the bracket.

Can't see broken or split tabs.

But have it tied in with three separate sets of ties.

More over I can't see how that bolt could come out without running into the fan. So it must have not been replaced at all after a service.
