Either left out or could have been loose and just ejected when you suffered the power drop issue. There’s not a normal need to remove the plenum during servicing.
Have you had this vehicle remapped?

Nah I haven't had anything outside of 12 month services or every 10k.
Previous owner put some gear on it but a remap was not mentioned and he would made comment I would have thought.
It had 53k on the clock when I bought it. It was also serviced the week before as part of private purchase deal then I had it serviced at 60k and 66k.
Car before this I owned for 10 years only drove 90k in that time.
Is what it is without proof no point in laying blame. The bolt is a priority before it really hits the fan. Timing is not ideal.
That is a definite fact that the bolt will hit the fan before it comes out, as I know I need to rotate the fan blades out of the way whenever I was removing or fitting the bolt.
An older intercooler delivery hose can cause a fair bit of movement of the plenum due to expansion under boost - after I replaced my throttle housing, I found the delivery hose coming off under boost as it was expanding so much it shortened enough to come out from under the hose clamps. If the plenum is not secured by that bolt, an expanding hose will have quite a bit of leverage on the throttle housing join.
Def a bolt needed there. On mine i put a washer between the plenum and it's mount, found it aligns better to the throttle body that way. The plenum has to push home all the way on the throttle body and the steel clip needs to fit tight. Should not be possible to remove without tools. The legs of the clip end in a 90 degree bend, these have to face the right way for the clip to grip properly. From memory they face to the front of the car, but ill confirm tomorrow with a picture. I also use zip ties to hold the clip in place and this stops the o ring from popping out of its groove under boost. As the plenum moves with the engine relative to the intercooler hose the hose clips need to be tight. Minebrins a remap with a few psi higher boost than normal and I have never popped the intercooler hose off. You need to make sure that the hose id and spigot are clean and free of oil at both ends.
Thank you Eric,
So I managed to get myself a new clip come as part of the plenum and a new seal. Clip definitely has more tension and seal more fuller and tighter than oem. All for $120, I was about to drive home 1200ks through some remote areas, thought that was reasonable.
I couldn’t get a purpose made bolt so bought the exact bolt above and I had fitted all exactly as you describe. Made it home with no issues.
Now I need to properly inspect the rocker cover leak reported by Indy. Because I’m not convinced it’s just oil that tracked from the throttle body.
While fitting new plenum, clip, seal and bolt (not in that order). I saw the aftermarket water outlet that I had arranged to be fitted by previous owner at the time of purchase as part of our deal. It’s a billet triumph rover part fitted by triumph rover. They would of removed and not fitted throttle body and plenum correctly way back about 18 months ago (June 2018), as I said no bolt there at all. I never noticed nor the Indy during 2 services. So the clip has held on since then.
I’m learning.
Cheers all for the assistance, very helpful.
Ahhhhhh...TRS then?.... me too some time back..
