It’s A5/B5 so exceeds the A1/B1 requirement.

it also comes down to how long they stay with in spec as well
I was a huge Castrol fan boy. Used to run special ordered C1 in my disco.
I run penrite full syn now. I had a mate with a Cummins isx on Rx super who ate a cam. They told him it was the oil. He continued on the oil. He had run for 20 years. And ate another one. He then switched to their oil. And he's fine.
I've always hated Castrol coolant.
You can buy the correct Castrol which is "professional" from cooldrive in Aus. Or penrite off the shelf at super cheap or Repco. It makes it easier to use them
I think back then people were using the GF-4 M1 5w-30.
It's HTHS is too low for heavily loaded unit injector cam lobes.
Works fine with normal roller cams, e.g. Chev's, which is what it was designed around.
Anyone using M1 0w-40 wouldn't have had an issue as it had full VW PD diesel licensing. M1 0w-40 was blended for European light diesels, which shows you really need the oil specs to match the engine specs.
Smart reading of oil specs can lead to using a 'better' oil once out of warranty too, but I'll say no more on that can of worms.....
Even how an oil is blended makes a difference to the finished product.
Warm/hot blending is much more preferable to cold blending, you get a much more consistent lubricant but only the bigger blenders do it.
ok I'll poke the bear . . .
for a TDV6 in an old D3 I'm still using the Castrol edge professional long life III 5W-30, but been advised the Castrol magnatec professional A5 5W-30 is what I should use.
I am unsure of benefits of the Penrite or best one to use but happy to be educated as to which will be the best for my vehicle.
Over to the eggs perts!

Edge Professional LL doesnt have Ford spec approval - If I was using Castrol I would be using the A5.
At the end of the day it is your call.
Castrol Edge Professional Recommended by Land Rover(R) Australia
ok fair point on the edge, did not know it was not up to spec. Next service is due in 1500 km. I only had about 2L of it left in the drum.
What is the benefit of the penrite compared to the castrol magnatec A5?
Apart from I can source at local supercheap.
Can’t give you a direct comparison of the benefits of Penrite over Castrol as I don’t have the knowledge of their blending package.
Much like anything it is more a recommendation born of experience with Penrite oil over 25+ years in a multitude of vehicles. In that time I’ve had no issues with abnormal or accelerated wear (I have oil testing done) and also the benefit of multiple supply chains means good availability. My oil analysis always shows the oil holding up so I’ve chosen to stick with it.
The 6L packaging of the penrite is a big plus too. Perfect for a change then use the bottle to dispose of the dead oil at the tip collection spot. No left overs like when I bought 20L drums
