    Map update for MY10 LR4/ Discovery 4

    Hi All,
is there any one out there who has had experience with updating the factory SatNav mapping software? (Australia)
Does any one out there have a latest update disc for a MY10 Disco4??
    Mine has never been updated
my land rover dealer said to go to whereis.com.au website however this has changed and there is no where to select vehicle map software updates for purchase??
I have searched around and found website navshop.com.au that are supposed to supply updates for our vehicles however is noting the map update for my particular MY10 is no longer available
Surely my Land Rover radio/ satnav unit is more future proof than only limited to 10 years?
are there any hacks out there that any one may know of?
and YES i know i can use my phone, but hey if its there it may as well be use (even just to tell me what road im on)

    hope you can help
    cheers
    Ray

The navigation system in the 2010-2011 models could only ever be updated using a special Firewire Hard Drive tool that the dealers had (maybe still have if not chucked out yet).

Updating required the dealer to purchase a map DVD, which was transferred to this special hard drive, and then loaded to the car, with a license key.

But that doesn't really matter any more since there hasn't been an AUS map update available since 2013.

The last time I asked a dealer about this (to convert a UK import to AUS maps) they couldn't find one of the discs, or where to get the license key.

navshop.com.au can't help you either for these models.

The alternative is an Apple CarPlay / Android Auto retrofit to the factory screen so you can use the maps from your phone.

Or rip out the whole system and put in something aftermarket.

    Sorry!

    Hi mate
    thanks for your reply,
Oh wow, i would be happy for even just "The alternative is an Apple CarPlay / Android Auto retrofit to the factory screen so you can use the maps from your phone."
    please tell me more

is this something that the dealer could do?
or is this a 3rd party thing?
    where can i find?

My Disco has 360 cameras, would like to keep this function but still use as nav device if possible, (ultimately doing away with the secondary TomTom on the windshield
    thanks again

    Hi Ray.

If you manage to get an update it will already be out of date and very expensive for what you get. I have an MY13 D4 and the dvd would have cost $200 from memory and was going to be about 12 to 18 months since it was actually updated. I ended up buying a 7 inch garmin satnav which is always up to date and includes speed zones, school zones etc. I sit it just to the left of the instrument binnacle and it does not get in the way and is actually easier to see there than the in dash LR one. The LR ones do not have any such info. I believe that newer Land Rovers have finally come into the real world and now provide such detail as standard.

Your choice but updating the LR satnav is not the way to go on older models IMHO.

    Map update for MY10 LR4/ Discovery 4

Sadly TomTom don't even know what they are trying to sell.
If you pick out Discovery 4 "2010-2012" it shows the disc for the Freelander 2, which is not compatible, and they now say it's not available anyhow...
The model ranges for the Disco4 with this system are 2010-2011, not 2012, it was 2012 when the new IAM2.1 system was introduced, which is totally different.
And map version V20 is from 2014, with 2013 data in it, so 7 years old now anyhow.

It's a 3rd party kit, i'm doing the installations here in Sydney.

Just realised that I hadn't posted up a thread in the Discovery 4 subforum, but you can see an example in the L322 subforum here
Apple CarPlay & Android Auto for 2010-2012 L322

You don't lose any factory functionality, it's an add-on, the surround cameras, TV, etc all work as before.

Here's a vid from a Range Rover Sport, same system

    And a pic from a Disco 4.

You can have Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, Sygic Nav, etc...

Here's an example of Waze in an Evoque.

It's worse than that Martin the last available update to suit your MY13 is from 2016 (V22), and there's not going to be anything newer released in the future.

So the options are live with the old system, use an additional nav unit as you are doing, or the Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.

Actually there are also 3rd party navigation units which can be integrated to the 2012-2016 system, but they also don't give you live traffic, you'd only get that from a phone or maybe a newer portable unit.

For 2013 on models it's linked to your VIN on order and comes on a CD that must be inserted into the CD player in the dash. Part of the installation procedure involves entering your VIN to verify.
