I have the large part on the outside and attached to the upper section of the Disco 4 mirror.
Done around 25,000 klms and absolutely no probs at all. Also had them on my old 2009 RRS for about 10,000 klms and no probs.
Around $110 and excellent value for money.

I have the large part of the mirror face facing down - this gives me maximum rear view to see the van wheels for the odd occasion I need it eg some tight reversing, but still with adequate vision elsewhere. Having a MY10 model, I don't have auto closing mirrors on lockup.

MY10 SE has auto folding mirrors. I do believe you can turn this on or off either in the ccf file if you have a gap id tool.

I trimmed 100mm off the legs of my milencos, re-used the end plugs of course, cant tell theyre shorter. the towing mirror sits right next to the car mirror, in portrait orientation. The kink in the arm points down, i.e. the kinked leg points to the ground.

The grips hold onto the top of the mirror really well, no vibration and great visibility down both sides and behind. We only have a smallish van (1500kg fully loaded).

I originally had Milenco Grand Aero's. Nicce mirrors but hard to keep on with the D4 mirror rims. Changed over to Brunsgaards. Much better. Make sure you get the extra arms suited to the D4 large mirrors. However, even with the 4 point Brunsgaard I ALSO use an occy strap that goes from near the brunsgaard mirror, behind the D4 mirror and hooks on to the D4 mirror on the inside near the door window making the mirrors a 5-point connection. Never move and only a few secs to disconnect.

    Milenco Grand Aero 3

Great mirrors. Have been using for years. Grand Aero has great aeorodynamic shape. No problem with wind and road trains passing or with roadside bushes. And you can remove easily when not towing unlike the Clearview and are a lot cheaper.

    Evolution of the user experiance

Had Milenco for 5 years, lost the drivers side two weeks ago due to truck wash, am now giving Brunsguard a try, the mounting system allows better placement of the arms that react the forces from the Brunsguard mirror head, which is also quite a bit smaller than the Milenco. I clamped the Milenco on the top edge of the D4 mirror, found the angle between the outer and inner shell (surround) of the D4 mirror to be at the limit of what the clamp would grip onto. The clamp pressure distorted the D4 mirror surround quite a bit when tight enough to stay in place. There is also a mating joint on the top surface of the outer shell with the inner surround that the clamps struggle with as they are not quite deep enough to get a good purchase on the main body of the outer shell I think the whole set up is quite heavy and this does not help the situation. I removed them for dirt road / rough road work. A mate of mine had the next year model (MY14) and the included angle of the inner surround and outer shell was even greater than on my model, the Milenco did not stay on his car at all.

Summary, I think the Brunsguards are a better option. just my $215 worth

    Depends on the mirror type

    Hi,

The issue of towing mirrors has caused me some grief over the years as I try to get mirrors that are stable and hold on. I have found that the clamp on types (Milenco and so on) are fine for by 2012 HSE D4 but absolutely useless on the 2016 HSE D4.

The newer D4 mirror has cameras and wade sensor and is nicely aerodynamic, but absolutely hopeless for any type of clamp on mirror. Mirror brands that stay stuck on the 2012 model just fly off the 2016.

For the later model with the fancy mirrors I have taken to using a separate strap on mirror, like the ones sold at supercheap Auto, although there are many groups that sell the same thing re-badged. link

    Hope this helps
