I guess you could get it sleeved ?
Hi everyone. My hitachi compressor has been giving the "slow to vent" error which pointed to a blocked dryer. In the last week the compressor stopped pumping air and I pulled it apart today to find the guide ring on the piston disintegrated and a decent gouge in the side of the cylinder.
As I dont really want to spend $1.5k on a new air compressor i thought id see if anyone has an old hitach compressor they dont need? I literally just need a finned cylinder wall that has an undamaged bore.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

This video is very useful for the disassembly. Rust should not be so bad in Australia.
Step 1 is the desiccant going to mush and creating the slow to fill problem. He explains it well. The easiest fix.

I hadn't though of that but I'm not sure if theres enough material to machine out and sleeve, or if anyone around here would do it for a reasonable price. Maybe I could send it to This Old Tony?. It seems not worth it if I can get a replacement cylinder.
I just installed a kit like the first, which is when I noticed the buggered cylinder. The second one looks promising. those are the two bits that I need! (as the piston seals are likely buggered now I've tried running it in a damaged cylinder).
Thanks
Dan

This is what I found inside the compressor. Yummy!
So I have looked at the parts online and the earliest shipping date is 2 -4weeks, with others scheduled to arrive April to early May. I've had a new compressor delivered overnight which I was planning to put in today, however I managed to get the old damaged compressor to raise the car to normal height before pulling all the fuses. Ill probably still put the new pump in, though i now have some time to make a decision.
One issue I had was the front airbags weren't raising using the in cab lever. I had to jack up the front to full droop and run the compressor via the GAP IID tool until it stopped, then lower the car (i.e fill each airbag while it wasn't under load). I thought it was just a pressure issue, but the rear seemed to raise and lower no problem. I have two thoughts for this, one is a damaged front valve, but I also noticed the front left airbag is leaking oil and I was wondering if anyone else has had oil ender the air pipes via a busted shock in an airbag (the shock is 4 months old BTW - pretty annoyed at that).
At the moment the car is driveable, though I'm reluctant to stick the new compressor in if I have to order and wait for a valve block anyway - I'll buy the compressor parts instead.
Your thoughts are appreciated!
Cheers
Dan
