Okies,
Driving and got the 'boing' engine fault noise.
My Gaptool told me P0046 – Turbo/super charger boost control solenoid circuit range/performance!
Bummer. I immediately suspected the worst in either turbo charger or the actuator rod!
I reset the fault code and it started and ran as normal....until I revved it.
I repeated this a few times and convinced myself, that because I couldn't replicate it exactly each time - it would fault out at a different rev or load each time - that it wasn't mechanical.
I spent an hour removing the heat shield and jiggling and lubing the actuator in any case.
After some googling, I decided to disconnect the sensors to rule them in or out.
I maybe got lucky on the first one as I disconnected the MAF, cleared the code and couldn't get it to re-occur.
May have dodged an expensive bullet, but now to replace the MAF.
Any better way to test it before I get a new one?

Supportercarby throttle body cleaner for the MAP sensor and proper MAF sensor cleaner for the MAF. Get them both from any auto parts outlet.
Very easy to do, word of warning with the MAF sensor - DO NOT TOUCH WITH FINGERS. Light spray either side of it all that is needed.

Subscriber+2 re rhe maf sensor. Also a note re throttle body cleaner, spray it well away from the car or any painted surface you dont want damaged. That stuff is VERY GOOD at removing paint and fingerprints and skin.....Originally Posted by PeterOZ

I cleaned the MAF coz I had some cleaner and it seems to have done the job.
I've not faulted out since I reconnected it, however I did clean the connector as well.
Let's see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

Damn and botheration!
Engine didn't fault out but wasn't running as smooth as I expect so I popped the GAP back on and low and behold, no MAF signal output.
Bugger.
Now to source a MAF in Sydney.
