I agree Eric, I couldn’t see the purpose of the hole or what you would be looking for...it is most likely a remnant of the past. As to the toughness of the factory sump plate...it did look to be reasonable, but it is all relative to what it may bash up against. I reckon it was left off. It has 6 bolts holding it on and is wedged under the front plate.
