How come no one has mentioned the issue with older transmissions?
I had an EH with auto and suffered the same fate. When I finally reversed out of my predicament, I found I actually could drive forward, and went straight to my mechanic around the corner. He said reverse goes first, despite being the least used gear - that's how I got a replaced auto ouch!

    hi Mike7
Have a read of the tread I have going at the moment in the Range Rover Sport area as some of your symptoms sound a bit like what I'm battling at the moment I would suggest cleaning all the connections from the fire wall back to the gearbox and transfer as I made a big difference to mine hope it works for you and use a good electronic contact cleaner on all the connections including the transfer CPU behind the battery

    Regards

    Thanks Kynan,

Ill give that a go, I spoke to my LR indy service guy and he thinks it might be the brake light switch as suggested here and not the gearbox itself which is a big relief but still early days with the diagnosis. Drove the car today and no symptoms at all, wish I had an IID tool to have a look at what faults there are.

    cheers

So. I swear I’ve seen a brake / accelerator together error but trying today I couldn’t make it happen. So I take that back BUT!!!!
There I was at the lights today. Green arrow goes, I accelerate, I move off, just get moving and the engine dies - well doesn’t die - just press the pedal and nothing. Revs dropping and I’m slowing to a crawl, then suddenly and slowly it wakes up and starts to move off. Later I try putting my foot on the brake and accelerator at the same time and I get the same effect. I think my brake light switch is also failing. I swapped it this arvo with another used one that was working ok when removed so we’ll see. Need to find the Ford part number.

I vaguely recall reading "somewhere" that the computer goes strange when you press the accelerator pedal and brake pedal at the same time. Not sure if it was here or not, but I know I saw it "somewhere"!

Many years ago now but the cheapest switch price was from the local LR dealer.

    Hi Mike

Could I just check something that is implied but not stated anywhere (I think). Is your gearbox a manual or an automatic? I am assuming that it is a manual as you refer to an oil change rather than a transmission fluid change, but this could have just been a turn of phrase...

I had something symptomatically very similar to this a few years back, but mine was in an auto and was specifically related to that transmission.

    Cheers

    Alistair

You are right mate, but to get that error up I " think" you need to hold it a certain amount of time. Also both circuits in the switch need to be working. I did the same thing the first time my switch went. Tried to replicate it. Now I have one in the glove box

    Hi Alistair,

Its an auto and it’s the transmission oil that Ive changed, sorry for the confusion.

No symptoms in the last few days, Ive got my indie mechanic to come on the weekend and see if he can download any fault codes.

    Mike
