Hey All
new to the forum and have searched for some info on issues with a D3 with Tow Pro Elite v3 just installed. Took the caravan out for a spin around the block and all was good until I flipped my headlights from auto to on, Lights came on and locked up the caravan brakes. Has anyone experienced this before and has any advice?
Was glad I was not out on the freeway and it happen while doing 100!
searching on iPhone so go easy on me if it’s been discussed, but I couldn’t find anything specifically.

The OEM trailer wiring in the D3 is European and as such has one power feed to left trailer tail light and one power feed to right trailer tail light. Australian system just has power feed to both trailer tail lights.
When you plug in a Aussie trailer to a standard D3 the relevant trailer tail light feed in the car will feed both lights, but the second feed in the car is in the same position in the socket as the trailer brakes so when you turn on your lights in the car power goes to the tail lights but also the trailer brakes. Not sure if it is the left feed or right feed - find out at the rear trailer system fuse box in the back of the car. Leave the fuse in on the one that works the trailer tail lights and pull the one that is working the brakes.
To get the brakes working either snip the wire going into the rare fuse box that is providing power to the electric brakes and connect the power wire to from your brake controller here or if you are not happy having this wire fused, connect the power wire from your brake controller to the wire on the trailer side of the fusebox.
You would thing that a car being sold in Aust would have its wiring system set up for the Aust system - but no. A trick for new players.

Go to the "sticky" section, there is a great D3 and D4 trailer brake wiring and installation thread by Sneigy, includes photos and wiring, you need to cut a wire where it splices.
all sorted. Auto electrician came back out and fixed. works a treat now.

" You may well think that but I had a Prado which when I reversed it blew the fuses for the fridge and aircon in the car etc. Very weird but the electrician at the van dealers reckoned it was to do with it being set up with reversing lights for trailers or something which were not required here.
I would have thought when he first wired it up for us he would have checked that sort of thing but the van industry is rife with complaints about bad workmanship.
