    Discovery 4 battery

The battery on my D4 has refused to start the car the last few mornings so is probably due for replacement - it's a Delkor so may be the original one. We're in lockdown so I was going to get the RACV to come and replace it.

Should be straightforward, but what's the connection circled in the photo and how do I fit it to a new battery, as it looks bespoke?

It looks to be the breather tube.

If you have a GAP tool you could try resetting the battery monitor to make the car think it has a new battery so charge it as though it can take full charge.

Delkor - it won't be the original battery.

Has the car had a decent run of late to charge the battery? It may just need a proper charge.

Agree with above..not sure why it had a breather tho...maybe been swapped out of an RV or been in the rear?

Thanks for the responses ... I've never seen that on any of my previous cars. Wouldn't seem to be necessary unless the under-bonnet area is tightly sealed or vents into the car.

The car gets driven about once a week and (was) mainly used for long trips but it's only started playing up recently on cold mornings - 5C this morning. The first time it did it was after a 400km drive so it's probably simplest to install a new battery.

Thanks all - I checked and it is indeed a tube rather than an electrical connection.

I drove my D4 6 hours to its end of warranty service after having to jump-start it that morning and several previous mornings and whilst the service people still had to put it on a charger, the battery was deemed OK. I bought a new battery a few days later.

It’s a breather tube as you’ve worked out for a traditional calcium sealed battery. Designed to take the charging gases out of the battery
