Good, honest reliable service, remember you get what you pay for.
Shift clunks means freeplay in the transfer case and splines, and / or transmission valve body.

						Hi all,
I drive a 2012 disco-4 tdv6 2.7l. Mileage is 126k. It's been serviced by a friend, who runs his own mobile mechanic business. Already done the following last 2+ years -
1. Transmission service (including Upgraded Steel Sump Kit) at Precision Auto in Osborne Park
2. Transer case service at Precision Auto
3. Air-Compressor upgrade by my friend
4. Usual brakes etc
5. Timing belt at Southern Land Rover
It runs mostly fine, except I get a kick every time gear changes at high speed (probably a propshaft problem - that's what I figured reading about this problem on the net - might be wrong). And I am not sure whether the control arm bushings are okay or not. My friend says they are okay by visual inspection. But I am not fully convinced with just a visual inspection because since owning this from 60k on the clock we have never done anything to control arms.
So, now I am looking for a recommendation - can anyone suggest a place or a person who can have a good look, test drive and give me an honest opinion about the control arm and propshaft - I don't want to just go to a servicing centre and then get ripped off. If the control arm bushings are fine, great. Or is there something that I can check myself - I have no knowledge about cars though.
Thanks heaps!
Cheers.

They completed the original pre-purchase inspection on my D4, the first service under my ownership and then the auto transmission service. I did the in-between 7500km service myself. However, my annual 15,000 service is due shortly and I'm going to get them to do my LCAs as well as there is a knock in the front over corrugations and bumps. The jury is out on their workmanship and price as I'm relatively new to them, but I did go to them after reading several recommendations on this forum. May be an option for you.
cheers

*At the around 100K I would not expect the spline between the trans and transfer case to be worn.
*Its pretty low km's for the age, so its prolly been babied, so again unlikely to be wear on the trans splines.
*Highly likely it is lower control arm bushes, they can go as low as 70K or as high as a few 100K.
*Typically I would expect clunking over bumps on the left side and if you stab the brakes momentarily.
*Replace the whole control arm if that is the issue.
*The front or rear drive shafts can also flog out.
Regards
Daz
