    What does your manual say? That's the key point.
    Lot of discussion about this. LR has its own approach to this.

    Here's a thread may be helpful.

    Can a Disco 4 tow a van with 350kg ball weight... I think not fit for purpose..

    There was a big thread about ball weights in the 'Trailers and Vans.....' section a year or so ago.

    Personally, I find the '10%' rule amusing because it doesn't appear to have any relevance to any science that I can find.

    If you take to an extreme .... you're towing 6 tonnes in a vehicle capable of doing it,
    then why would you need 600kg on the towbar?
