    Bottle Jack Question

Which bottle jacks are others using? Total Tools are selling one with 460mm height when raised. Is that enough?

I use the air/hydraulic one. Heavy but handy. It lives in the car in the third row footwell (I've permanently removed the seats). In the car it's powered by a twin ARB compressor.

Apparently the jack to get is one from a Mercedes Sprinter.

There are several detailed threads here that recommend the Omega telescopic hydraulic, two stage 2T bottle jack (Mfr#:BST2000. The specifications on the website are incorrect, it has a max height of 418mm, you need the full extension to get a wheel off the ground. The jack is also small enough to get under the rear chassis which has only 225mm clearance at road height.

I also have a tuffant bottle jack adaptor made for the Omega jack which is secured to the top of the jack head with a grub screw and then protrudes into the chassis lift point holes and prevents the jack from sliding off.

Just note the spec of the Omega changed and it has less lift. You’ll need a block of wood under the latest iteration.

As far as I know the Omega specs have been wrong for years. At the max height 418mm (420mm with Tuffant adaptor) you can get the wheel off the ground but with a block of wood underneath there is less wobble.

I think part of the problem is the minimum height to get under the car with flat tyre, etc. Omega is 181mm Totaltools is 230mm.

You can always drive the flat wheel on top of a couple of maxtracks, This will give you much better access with the jack
2t jacks are pretty flimsy for 4WD work especially if you are towing a boat/van/trailer, 5t would be a much better option.

    Bottle Jack Question

I did actually buy one of the Tuff Ant adaptors recently when I was drooling over which 18” wheels I should get when these tyres are due for changing.

I hadn’t quite thought of minimum height tho. Is 225mm the flat tyre height?
