    CONTROL ARM BUSHES D3

Has anyone used Poly bushes on the control arms? Mine are due (280k) and am considering changing the originals for poly. Is there anyone out there that has done this and would they recommend or not? I've done it to several cars and whilst it tightens things up it makes the ride a lot harsher and was wondering if this would be the case with the Disco. Regards.

There is a wealth of information on this. Don’t do it. Either go factory hydro bush again or use the Meyle HD bushes. I’m using the HD and they don’t feel any harsher than factory but have proven to last longer. All poly experiences ruin the ride of the car.

And the bushes in the D3/4 are a component of its flex, stiffening reduces capability as well as ride quality.

I mentioned back when they first came out - watch, there’s be stress risers from these - and there have now been a few crack mounts and arms.

The Meyle HD bushes from Advanced Factors are very good, I would go for those over original.

Still a penalty in ride and articulation.

The Indies around here use OEM only, nothing else.

They have tried all the others over the years, nothing comes close.

Some press them out while the LCA is on the vehicle, not that difficult and much cheaper to do instead of removing the complete unit,as long as the ball joints are OK.

I now just think of them as a service item. I bought two (Lemforder) a couple of weeks ago when I got 2 x service bits and pieces from Island4x4. I've got the press kit so will press in a new set at next service. I've done them in the driveway in the past but now have access to a hoist, I'm almost looking forward to it.....

Hi Tombie, I presume you are referring to the Poly Bushes which have generally been found to not be a good option. Scarry says that the Indies use OEM nothing else etc but this may be an ease of supply reason, I have never seen a post critical of the Meyle HD bushes only good reports, so I'm concerned that some of the posts on this thread are steering people away from a very good option for no good reason.

The Meyle HD bushes are better than poly - they however still don’t have the range of motion of a Hydra-bush, or the full dampening effect.

So yes, a good solution if your rig is a bitumen queen, if you want the full compliant ride and flex then Hydra-bushes are the go.

At around 80,000km between changes they are excellent value.
