D'oh...! Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already committed to the local part order which should hopefully arrive tomorrow. I rely on this vehicle for work at various sites every day, and don't have access to another vehicle, so needed the quickest possible solution. I'm not familiar with "all 4x4", but I'll add them to my list of options for future requirements.

Time for an update to wrap this one up...

The LR supplied ECU turned out to be faulty ex-stock (couldn't be programmed / accept the VIN number or something like that...). Had to wait a couple of weeks for LR Australia to source another new one from the UK. This one worked straight away and I finally got my car back, and is running as smoothly as before. I wasn't going to be convinced 100% for a while, due to the intermittent nature of the misfiring problem, but I've now clocked up a couple of thousand more km including some pretty rough, steep high country 4x4 tracks without any further issues.

I'm still loving this vehicle, and there's nothing available out there that I'd consider replacing it with at this stage, so hopefully my recent little run of expenses will settle down for a while. Vehicle hadn't missed a beat until around 12 months ago, since then I've been hit with 1x ECU failure, 1x split inlet manifold, 1x split intercooler, plus the big service (timing belts), 8sp transmission service, rotors and pads all round, 1x front wheel bearing and the transmission selector rotary dial lock issue. I've got 4x camping trips planned in the next 6 weeks, so my fingers are crossed!
