    Another rear eDiff question

    Hello,

Im in the market soon for a late Model D4- preferably 3.0 HSE in any colour other than Black or Dark blue. I also want one with eDiff. Some of the adds on Car Sales specify it and some don't.

Question:- does the attached screen grab mean that they owner thinks they have it?

    Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't trust it, when I was in the market for one with specific options the best thing to do was verify for yourself by the pictures.

I don't think the options are listed on the JLR websites either when you punch in the VIN, it would only basics such as spec (SE, HSE) and colour.
In saying this the e-diff is very rare. Are you able to go look at the car, raise the air suspension and crawl under?

Else there are some very good pre-purchase vehicle inspectors that are good, I highly recommend Arthur from SPVI.

@DWU - That’s was my fear. The options listed are a product of whatever the person who listed it punched in, or ticked.

I’m in VIC and some of the vehicles are interstate. That is not so much of a problem as my previous D4 was bought from Sydney. My boy and I flew up and drove it back which made for a fun / memorable experience.

Good idea on the inspector. I’ll check it out.

A vehicle with a rear e-diff should refer to the rear differential as shows for all MY17 or later SDV8 L405.

Topix used to show whether the rear diff was open or locking but Topix no longer shows minor features, which was all the build info.

If you ask the seller to fire up the car and go to the 4x4 extras screen you will see a graphic with two padlocks, one on the centre and one on the rear diff if fitted. They are fully auto with no user control. Interesting to watch how it flick on an off regularly in different scenarios.

The padlocks appear even on vehicles with no rear locker.
This isn’t a way to tell.

Select rock-crawl and see if the red padlock shows.

I stand corrected. Not sure why they’d represent an lsd with a padlock but there you go. Thanks for tip. Does the rear padlock on no locker variants just always appear unlocked?

Its not a lsd either - in the non e-diff it is a plain open diff - TC takes care of slip whether on road or offroad.

I don’t think it shows up on the later D4’s with the updated screen (2012 onwards). My 2012 doesn’t show the rear locker
