    Is the ABG-25 worth it

    Hi
I have the traxide dual battery installed and it has caused me a few problems with battery drain

I have had a manual switch put in to turn off the sc80 and this has helped with the main battery, I raised this in another thread

I now notice the aux battery does drain fairly quickly and the only things connected to it is the abg-25 and a redarc battery monitor and a TPMS

Unfortunately my car is idle a fair bit and I think the abg-25 unit is main battery drain

I was thinking of getting rid of it as it does not seem to be of any benefit to me as by the time it actually does it thing the battery is already fairly low.
I only occasionally run a fridge in the back and a TPMS.

Any thoughts, am I missing something

    Richard

Two points. You can set the cutout to 11.6v (as shipped) or 11.8, 12.0 or 12.3v. Also, you can fit a manual kill switch. I did it to the earth wire (which is OK for the ABG-25 as it shuts it off completely and I didn't want to run a live wire to the switch and back) but Tim recommends always switching the live wire.
My schematic attached. I needed a kill switch as all those usb ports do contribute to drain plus I had a Ni-Cad battery charger hard wired in.

Hi Richard, if your battery is draining to the point you are seeing low voltages in a short period of time, the problem is most likely insufficient driving.

While the ABG-25 does draw power, it also has an automatic 72 hour shut-down feature.

This means if you are not using your vehicle for more than 3 days, the ABG-25 will shut down, saving power.

During the 72 hour "ON" period, the ABG-25 will draw no more than about a total of 5 amperes.

5 amperes is not going to flatten any battery in good condition.

So if your battery is going flat over that 3 day period, my guess is both your batteries are probably in need or some form of charging and maintenance.

PLEASE NOTE, I am getting phone calls alone this type of situation on an almost daily basis at this time.

Ultimately, weather you have one of my systems or not, if you are not driving your vehicles, you MUST maintain your vehicle's batteries by some other means.

Use a battery charger regularly or where it can be done, fit a small solar panel and then your batteries will be kept in top condition and fully charged.

As to weather you need the ABG-25. We developed it as a means to save the auxiliary battery from being damaged, when people were continually leaving fridges running when their vehicles were not being used.

I don’t seem to be able to see your attachments

The kill switch sounds like a good idea.

As mentioned I have the redarc battery monitor installed on both batteries (and my van batteries) and keep the display inside the house so that I see it daily, they use very little power.
When I see either battery dropping I put it on a charge. The batteries are less than 12 months old.

I am just unsure why the aux battery drains so quickly when hardly anything connected. Even after a charge/drive.

Being able to just switch the ABG off would certainly help pinpoint if it is the abg or not, may be I should just pull the fuse as a test
