    Do you ever leave AULRO?

    Hi Everyone,

It's been ages since I was last on aulro in an active manner having found myself here when I bought my D2 TD5 in 2013. I spent plenty of time reading through the posts, asking questions and generally finding my way around the D2 from necessity.

Having found myself a little frustrated with an issue on the D2 and the car out of action as I needed to wait for the thread repair guy and following that, the gaskets to put things back together I found myself looking wistfully at the D3's and D4s.

I can happily scroll through the for sale ads without much risk of buying, but the wife has for years been telling me to upgrade the D2, which I refused to do, since I have worked on it for years and can do most things around the engine, and also having spent the money on a head gasket repair, cooling system and gearbox and transfer case over the 7 years, I wasn't at all prepared to give all that up, even if the options are greater comfort.

Anyway, the whiff of me looking at later model Discoveries and I'm bombarded with D3's and D4's from facebook.

I resisted all of a day when she came across a local to me D3 that recently had an engine swap done and the owner was looking to get out of the car. It was also our first chance to try out one. Well that was it, after a quick test drive she was convinced that the only way we were ever going to travel together in my car was in a D3 or 4.

So here I am, back again reading through AULRO forums in the D3 forum as I now learn the quirks of the D3.

Right now I have two tasks to chase down, can my Nanocom be unlocked for the D3 or do I got something more modern like the Gap IIDBTool, and why the heck does the instrument panel stop working!

Already been stung for the EGR valves being replaced.

    Peter.

I believe you can get the license for the nano to work on a D3 , dash issues usually end in a replacement required but hopefully its just an earthing problem.

Enjoy the new ride. I hope the wife understands you will now need to spend more per year on maintenance than the value of your old D2.....Do you ever leave AULRO?. But it is worth it.

Whilst the Nanocom can be used, still get the GapIID tool. With an older D3 it will pay for itself very quickly.

And the time spent on AULRO can be proportional to the number of issues you are trying to resolve or trying to avoid.

P.s. if you can - keep the D2 as well. When I upgraded I still regret selling the D2.

I had the opportunity to ride in the back of a D4 for a couple of hours recently, the interior was very quiet and comfortable, undetectable gear changes ( 6 speed ), and it pulled the Pioneer Camper up the hill to Jimna effortlessly. Makes me reconsider the SDV6 as opposed to the SDV8 in a L494,, and the real late ones make 700nm anyway..
though Mrs Pedro would not be happy spending all that dough to break a crank..

Thanks, I'll be back for a while I reckon. The forums are always a great place to read and learn, but OMG some of the issues! I learnt long ago not to worry, but be educated and aware and have the guts to have a go at things yourself.

I've been asking around, and I might just buy direct from the site, I can't see much in savings in general with the prices.

Just waiting on a bit of leeway in the bank account to pull the trigger on one.

I found the unlock license on their site, it's about the same price as the IID. The IID though has bluetooth and that appeals.
