I have one that plugs in the cig lighter and its almost spot on with my Fluke multimeter.
Could be a different brand than your though.
I put a cig socket voltmeter in my dash just for a quick glance while driving. Just wondering how accurate these things are. Cheers.

Usually close enough just to see how the alternator/battery are holding up.

I don't have one of these in my disco But I do have one of those dash mounted volt meters that are part of a multiple ciggy lighter/USB combo on my boat and I have found the volt meter to be fairly accurate as I have tested the reading on the volt meter against a multi meter on the batteries
I find it to be a very handy bit of kit especially on a boat.
