I have my red connected to permanent power on the batter and negative to the chassis. Trigger to the blue/slate.

(You can’t run the light bar off the blue/slate grey- it doesn’t have the current capacity)
I get the basic principle but I bought the Kings spottie wiring harness which is a great bit of kit. Well made and has all the components however for the trigger it has a red and black wire and in the kit they provide two piggy back connection options for common headlights to pick up the high beam power.

So I’m left with working out how to deal with red / black / blue-slate wire without blowing anything up.

I cant help you more. I don’t think you understand electronics enough Kings light bar maybe Google some images of relay spotlight setups and you’ll work out what you need to do. I used the same kit and it was simple (for me) but I’ve been wiring cars all my life.

Yes I’m missing something basic due to fact there’s no piggy back option for the Disco headlight plug.

In a normal DIY situation you only have the trigger wire from headlight to the relay via the cabin switch correct?

    Kings light bar

Is this the wiring harness you have PerthDisco?:

Looks to me like the red wire on the 2m headlight connection lead is used as the trigger and the one you modify to tap into the high beam. Black would then go to ground to complete the trigger circuit.

Exactly. It’s that simple. Good work finding that image. I scoured but couldn’t find what you have Kings light bar

Yes it is and I wired as you suggested red to the blue/grey LH light wire and black to earth but didn’t work. More experimenting today.

In fact I created some sort of headlamp shutter blinking and no spotlight activation so shut it down pretty fast.

It’s a very nice piece of kit and I installed on our 80 series with the H4 adapter was an absolute cinch.

I’ll try and simulate the trigger with a seperate 12V supply to check the harness works.

Which headlight configuration do you have?
    Main + Infill?

The Xenon version but it seems universally that the blue/slate is the high beam feed.

    I’ll test that also today.

If you have the infill lighting (secondary) then you can use a piggyback H7 to take the High beam feed off
