The amount of oil needed is only about 1.5litres and only needs to be changed every few years (depending on mileage) so really to save a couple of dollars every few years is just not worth it - just buy the right stuff from LR or another reseller.

I'm not trying to save money, if it was that I wouldn't own a disco. I do not have a LR dealer near me so its a matter of convenience. Royal Purple Synchromax is fine and SCA is not far away.

I didn't quote you so my comment was not specifically directed to you - was a general comment addressed to the Thread.

ZF LG6 (trans oil) was also shown to be a compatible substitute if I recall the last time this subject came up

That is a forum myth - oil qualities are completely different.

It’s not. I found the evidence of it last time I questioned it myself. You’ve given me the incentive now to reprove it. Thanks.

It is great if you can do it as it does open options because logic would say then you can put Royal Purple Synchromax in your gearbox.

When I got mine it was through SCA, just checked and they no longer list synchromax.

a quick google shows you can order direct from RP Synchromax Manual Transmission Fluid - 1 Litre – Royal Purple Australia $61.40 for 1L. I’m sure I paid less than that. Not sure how much the LR branded stuff is going for these days.

its nearly time to change fluid again, no issues running Synchromax in the Magna Steyr transfer case at all.
