Can you unplug the return hose, point it into a bucket and fill the reservoir, turn on the engine and keep filling it with PS fluid until it’s been flushed. Then reconnect the hose and fill like normal?
Hi folks,
2012 D4 HSE, yesterday the orange warning triangle appeared, no problem, just letting me know my washer needed refilling. This morning I’m running late but thought I had better fill up washer bottle. In my haste I inadvertently poured about 150ml of water into steering reservoir. Within minutes I siphoned as much as I could from steering reservoir. I refilled with auto transmission fluid (all I had) and then wicked that out with various rags, I Couldn’t see much water in the bowl. Have not yet started vehicle.
I called RAA who came and had a look and suggested car should be towed to dealer to get system flushed ASAP, no starting. So happens was booked in on 22nd February. So...
did I get the water out? There appears to be valve on base of bottle did water get past this?
has water (being less dense than oils) passed valve and and is heading to steering box?
Is it safe to drive car now? I’m not talking 100,S of K’s just until service on 22nd February.
thanks
Pete W

The raa guy is an idiot! Or just lazy. Bigger hose should be the suction line.
big hose is suction, smaller hose is return.
pull the suction line and let it drain the reservior.
remove the return line and blank the return fitting on the tank, replace the suction line and then fill it up, start the engine breifly with the reurn line into a drain bottle.
return the hose to the tank refill
Done.
