£150!! I think that I'll keep the message. It doesn't show on the instrument cluster and I haven't noticed any other effects.

It may throw the occasional code but won't affect anything, I wouldn't worry about it.

Finally got the new trim fasteners in the post so that I can reattach the splash guards and wheel arch flares. Got my permit and insurance so now to road test and prepare for the roadworthy. The only concerns now are the fuel injectors and possibly windscreen. I'm hoping the injectors will come good with a bit of use.

Probably just needs a good Italian tune up Dave.

The engine is still too smoky to pass a roadworthy test. before laying out the big bucks on a set of injectors, I took the truck to a local LR guru for a second opinion. The attached photo shows the split in the turbo intercooler that he found! Even if it doesn't fully cure the smoking it will certainly help, and it only cost the equivalent of one injector.
While I have the radiator out I'm replacing the timing belts and fitting new silicone turbo hoses as it's uncertain how old the belts are.

Don’t forget to also put in a new later model oil pump, and I would recommend replacing the crankshaft damper if still original. The rubber goes hard and it stops being a damper. Also good to do all the timing belt pulleys at the same time.

Looks like my Christmas wish list is getting longer

I wonder if it is worthwhile giving a decarboniser a go. Nothing to lose.

I generally run CEM FTC Decarbonizer in the fuel of my diesel engines and the territory will be no exception as they have known egr issues, and the FTC seems to sort that out nicely going by past experience.

Added the double dose with the first two fills and am back onto the standard dose now and the engine definitely runs a tad sweeter than it did when i picked it up

no difference in economy and it is still averaging in the late 7s / 100k
