    4.0 V6

Looking at various options of a D3, like the idea of the 4.0, but not much info about it. i.e problems, fuel consumption etc. lots on V8 and diesel V6? Any comments.
    Thanks

Not a bad motor but lacks the torque of a TV6 or V8 power.
Main issue is the timing chains which can be a motor out job to fix.

There are a few threads that touch on it.

Here's a starting point: What D3 to buy?

I had one and it was no trouble at all. With the 6spd it had enough power and torque but it wasnt anything to write home about.

From what I have read it appears to be the most reliable and cheapest to maintain of the 3 options. The timing chains should not need to be touched unless you have a large number of kms on it, and it doesnt have the plastic thermostat housing of the V8 which is prone to cracking. (i cant remember if the V8 uses timing belts or chains)

The only downside is it's considerable thirst - it uses as much fuel as the V8 but is down about 60kw and 67Nm.

The other thing to consider is the V8s are only available in 2005 to i think 2007. The early ones have the CanBus issues where a blown tail light could cause the car to go into limp mode. Later models (not sure what date, but at least 2008 onwards) had a 2 spd canbus which alleviated most of those problems

The biggest concern for me was finding either v8 or v6 that had appropriate gearbox maintenance.
