    D4 Parking Sensor fault

    Hi all,

I have finally bitten the bullet and after much anxiety (which still remains) I have bought myself a 2013 D4 3.0L SDV6 HSE.
To assist with the anxiety issues ... I have kept my 2001 Disco 2 TD5 as a 'safety blanket'.

The vehicle I have acquired is in pretty good condition with a few options including 18" wheels, LR fuel tank and has done just over 115,000km.

There are two issues that are bugging me at the moment that I could do with some help on.

The first is a constantly sounding (not beeping) reverse parking sensor when the vehicle is in reverse ... I cancel the alarm by pressing the button on the dash.
I have tried the old 'WD-40 into the sensors' trick to dislodge any water that may have penetrated the sensor .. to no avail.
I suspect that there may be an issue around the sensor itself, which has been removed due to the installation of a rear wheel carrier and is currently tied with a cable tie to the bumper and pointing in roughly the right direction.
I have scanned for faults with my GAP IID Tool and no errors are indicated!!

The second issue is in relation to the headlights.
They are Bi-Xenon of which I was under the impression were supposed to be very bright.
The low beam is not bright .. but OK ... however, I expected the high beam to be very bright and they are not. Just the opposite!!
Have other D4 owners with these lights found their lights to be similar. I may have just been spoiled by my 9" driving lights ... but I don't think so.

Any advice to help resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated.

    1. The sensor is picking up the rear wheel carrier and/or the towbar. Simply put a clear protector on like these Madico 11mm Vinyl Round Floor Protection | Bunnings Warehouse but cut it in half vertically and put it on the half of the sensor that looks towards the tow bar.
    2. Bi-Xenon are brilliant. So much so that I haven't bothered to fit driving lights, which is the first time I haven't fitted them to a Landrover vehicle in 46 years! Mind you, I have Stedi LED in fill globes in lieu of the Halogen ones it came with. So, something is not right with yours. Others will offer better advice, but I suspect the ballast thingy may need replacing.

Are you sure they are xenons? Only way to tell is the silver heat sink and driver module that sits at the bottom of the headlight assembly. Should be just visible if looking at the back of the headlight. They should be much brighter than std halogen. Another issue could be dust ingress into the lens, a wooden skewer with a cotton ball soaked in metho tied on the end usually cleans them up nicely.

The globes do dull with time, i replaced one of mine and the difference was like night and day. Locally they are super expensive, I cant remember exactly but I think it was $300 for one globe. I bought a second new identical globe from Ebay UK for less than a $100.

I haven't taken the lights out yet to see if there is a balun attached to the back .. however, I noted that their is a sticker/barcode on top of the light that says it's Bi-Xenon. I also noticed that the leds are a yellow colour which indicates they are DRL to my understanding. They are also quite dull if they are indeed DRL's

Over what sort of time frame?
These lights would be 7-8 years old now and I don't believe there has been too much night driving during this time.
I wonder which is more likely to fail .. the bulb or the balun?

I did mine last year, mine is a 2011 model, but for most of it's life the head lights have been on as I have it setup that way.

Hmm, reads to me the ballast is failing. Deals should be bright white led. See photo of mine. MY11 bi xenons, never touched those, but added the led copperhead infill bulbs from Stedi20191011_073843.jpg

Ballasts rarely fail in that manner.
The arc erodes the tips changing the light projected.

Either way, sounds like replacement is in order.
