    Rear Prop Shaft CV joint

    Gday All,

Have noticed a fine spray of grease that is coming from the front CV hoint where the rear prop sharf bolt onto the back of the transfer case. With the age of the car and guessing the cntre bearing would be next i am guessing im up for a new prop shaft.

    - has anyone stripped 1 of these down and re-greased the CV joints and done the centre bearing ?

    - where are people sourcing a new shaft - locally or UK.

    cheers Bulletman

Are you sure its not the seal on the TC letting oil out?

Have a google, these cv's are serviceable, should not need a complete new shaft, just the cv joint. I'm watching mine as well, when they start to show leaks, im planning on doing all cv joints and the rear shaft centre bearing in one hit.

From what I've seen, it looks pretty easy to strip and replace/repack the cv bearings.

Im very confident its grease not oil, seems to be common from several posts i have read on other forums ,i just cant seem to find where anyone has stripped one down to investigate why.... looking at the pictures it seems they are covered and i can only wonder if there is an oring or gasket that has failed and thats whats letting the grease out. the centre bearing seems ok but the car is a 2008 model and thinking that by the time i do front CV , centre bearing and check centre CV , plus not sure about the rear uni joint, a new shaft is looking like a good an option.

    Rear prop shaft CV

Did you ever try and service the cv. How and was it successful?

I ended up pulling it out and resealed the cap onto the cv joint with gasket silicone. Hasn't leaked again yet but early days
