    D4 Engine Idle Speed

    Good afternoon all,
Forgive me if this has already been covered but I am a new member just venturing into Green Oval ownership.

I have a 2012 2.7 TDV6 with approx 230K Km on the clock. The engine idles at around 900 rpm indicated on the tacho, even when warmed up. This sounds a bit high to me but the place I bought her from reckons that's about normal. Quick Google indicates many potential areas of concern, many of which appear to indicate impending financial ruin.

Does anyone have any advice on this, such as what idle speed would the car normally sit at and any possible easy remedies etc?

    Many thanks.

Mine sits at about that - think you are worrying about nothing.

Welcome to the club and forum.

That sounds about right to me also. If you want, I'll check tomorrow and post the exact RPM.

I went out just after my post - my tach shows about 850 at idle when warm - its a bit cold here tonight so cold was a bit over the place but from about 800 to 900rpm on start - that was after two glow plug cycles before starting.

Sounds about right, but my basis is the 3.0 l. Mine idles around 750-800rpm when warm, a bit more when cold. Nothing to worry about, idle should be even and not hunt around, and also there should be no or minimal rattles and clicks etc. Check MAF and MAP sensors, easy to clean with some spray cleaner you can get from most autoparts stores.

OK, So had a look with my Gap IIDTool. Cool start- Idle RP: 736. On the tacho the needle sits just below the 800 rpm mark.

    NB:
    1. 200 rpm increments not to be confused with 100 rpm increments .
    2. This is the 3.0 ltr.

    D4 Idle Speed

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to respond.
Having read the replies I have kept a close eye on the car and all is well.

Item 1 below is the killer, looks like my eyes need recalibrating to read a tacho correctly! She idles around 750-800.
