D3 rear tail gate gas struts

Correct, the seals fail and gas escapes.
Without new seals they'll fail again.

Repco, Supercheap and presumably all the car shops will have them. I bought slightly longer ones for my other car cause the standard height of the original struts was right on head height. Probably cheaper on ebay but I like to be able to take things back easily if they fail. From memory I paid abt $70 bucks a strut.

$70 bucks a struts is way too dear IMHO. I bought all four off ebay for $54 delivered to my door. No issues.

I’ve got a set in full working order that I took off when I replaced mine with heavier units to suit my ladder etc.

Where did you get the heavier units Mike ????

Mine are still working OK, but on the edge of their capability with the ladder on too. If I want the tailgate fully open, I have to "help" it for the last inch or so.

I tried to get some done in Osborne Park but they weren’t strong enough. As always winter shows up poor gas lifters.

Try this mob. They're only 10 mins from me, so I could take my D3 to them for a measure up for you.
I got them to make up a heavier strut for my rear wheel carrier. They worked out the pressure required by calculating the weight of tyre and rack and then upped it a bit so that, with about 6" to fully open, it slows down considerably, on the swing arc.
