I found it best to buy a set advertised as for a D3/D4 tailgate (not generic ones) from ebay. I did this for my L322's bonnet and upper tailgate and for my tractor's bonnet and they're all very good.
folks,
can the rear tail gate gas struts be reconditioned and if so who in QLD? Or best place to buy a new pair?
My tail gate sagged last weekend and I walked into it, wacked my head on the narrow point of the door so badly I knocked myself out, came to with a bloke asking if I was ok!
Noggin is still very tender.
ta
cheers

I bought a set from UES in Darwin, I'm sure they would be someone similar in Qld. They were just their generic brand, I just took 1 in and they gave me what I needed, I also got the bonnet ones there as well

I've had struts rebuilt and also bought new. New isn't much dearer.

Front (bonnet) are 200N items, rear tailgate are 470N items.
You can go heavier, but this just makes the tailgate and bonnet harder to close.
Replace one at a time and chock the gate / bonnet up with timber, they are heavy and will squish your fingers.20210616_165524.jpg

everyone appears to hint at the fact that new is better but doesn't say it. I have tried re gassing several times but they seem to fail quicker than new ones. Am I correct in saying that they put them in a chamber and PUSH gas back into them the other way. If this is the case then surely what goes in will come out again ???

Various Strut Shops in all major centres literally swap them while you wait. I do prefer the ease of the old ones compared with the strength of the new ones.
I did same to my head once on the corner of the top corner of a door. I’m just right height. Didn’t get knocked out but admit I had a little cry.
Wearing peaked caps sets you up for a lot of unexpected head knocks.
