Transfer Case Oil change and Brakes + other questions while I'm buying stuff!

    Hey everyone,
Had my mechanic do oil and diff oil change yesterday. He didn't have any LR transfer case oil so I suggested I would look into best place to get it.
So a few questions relating to that:

    1. Where do people get it from? Ive heard suggestions from UK being cheapest?
    2. Assume its not difficult to do? Anything I need to look out for or calibrate afterwards?

    3. If buying from UK, wondering if there are other things that might be worth buying at the same time? eg I'm going to need brakes next service? (probably should start a new post with my questions about brakes!)
    also brake switch? coolant crossover?

This was my first service since buying in January so haven't had to do any maintenance so far.
    Appreciate any advice

    Cheers
    Dave

Just buy it from your local dealer - yes might be a little more expensive ($85 vs $70) but when you only use 1.5 litres every few years the difference works out only being a few dollars - the cost of a cup of coffee - the difference is really not worth the hassle.

I paid AU$42/litre for it from the UK and cost me technically no more as it was added to an order I placed anyhow (and it didn’t bump the shipping cost to add it). That said, unless I was doing a deliberate purchase of lots of things from the UK I needed I’d just go to a dealer for the small amount and infrequent change interval

Thanks for that. Do you have any thoughts on brake rotors and pads? ie whether to stick with genuine or try to get something from UK etc?

I would go Akebono pads and RDA rotors from here. I would not import rotors from the UK as the shipping would be horrendous

    Thanks!
What is the benefit of those over LR? My mechanic said in the past he had trouble with a disco putting non-genuine on and it upsetting the ABS so he's reluctant to go something else. I said I would ask the collective wisdom here
Any thoughts as to best place to buy?
    Sorry for all the questions!

Akebono produce the least dust of all pads for the LR. RDA work well and are well priced. Nothing wrong with LR genuine but you list pay the LR tax

Have you found ceramic pads to be noisy at all?

Completely silent and dust free from Akebono. Others have been awful. I’m a convert to this brand. I’ll never use anything else from now on.

thanks so much! Do you think which rotors combined with the pads made any difference? Do RDA make different models to suit D4 (eg are there a grooved rotor that is better?)
