TDV6 engine fail. How common? How many kms.

I am looking at upgrading the D2 and getting a D4. The catastrophic engine failure gives me some concern.
    What % of engines fail?
What km engine would be 'safe' from this issue?

    TIA

The 2.7 in the D4 is the least prone for failure, the 3.0ltr can go at any time, regardless of mileage and service history - failure rate is around 2% but does seem more common lately.

As said, the D4 2.7 is the 'safe' choice. The engine is also generally less problematic than the 3.0L,but they are getting on a bit, only ran until MY12.

    Any 3.0L can go,whether its a 2010 D4 or a 2019 D5.RRS with same engines also have the issue.

But the % chance of it happening is low.

Two engines in the D4, early @ 2.7 litre and later @ 3.0 litre.

Considering that the 3.0 engine is in the LR, RR, and Jaguar the failure rate is not high.
The 2.7 engine was also in those cars for a time.

Although LR state in their Service Bulletins that the failure is due to "faulty assembly", there is some opinion amongst owners that the long service intervals (around 23,000 klms) does not help their cause.

Many of us change oil/filter religiously between 8-12,000 klms.

    I honestly doubt it’s at 2%.

2005 d3 Running perfectly at over 400,000. My replacement forced by hail is a 2009 which engine failed at 300,000

A possible reason is suspected but not confirmed on the failure may not be to do with the Engine.
Given I cannot confirm every aspect of the first 200,000 plus I am of course speculating

no way would it be that high! maybe 2% of forum users because people come where when they have problems. but in the real would a 2% failure rate would be business suicide! They wouldn't still be using the engine - in Discos, RRS, Jags and Fords - if 1 in every 50 sold failed.
