At some point a software engineer said "hey wouldnt it be cool to have an auto lift n shut tailgate" never stopping to think if its a good idea or not.
I have no thought as to why anyone would ADD that to a vehicle that doesnt have it standard.

Just like a electronic handbrake, its quicker to operate it by hand.

I like the idea personally but not sure I like it enough to pay for it.

For sake of curiosity - Why do you like it?

I like the foot kick opening. I believe this system also has that function which is helpful with full hands. Also I like the button inside that I can open and close it for my kids while I’m in the car. My kids can’t easily reach the tailgate once open, so the ability to remotely close it from inside after they get their bags out etc would be cool. But again, I’ve worked around it all this time, so more novelty. It’s not worth the $600+ dollars for me to spend on it

Our Jeep GC has a e tailgate, very handy, but you cannot open or close manually as you'll break the actuator.

Takes a bit of getting used to after having cars with manual tailgates. Plus it's another thing to fail.

Ours does get confused and if closing and you're in gear, it can stop halfway...

One thing I’ve always laughed at was auto tailgates and bad weather.

Takes forever to open and close and if it’s pouring, by the time it’s done the interior is soaked.

Can certainly see the practicality for shorter statures but that would be the only real genuine benefit.

Everything else is purely laziness D4 auto tailgateD4 auto tailgate

Yes - had a VW Passat wagon with auto tailgate when I went over on a course at the Kleemann factory in Germany. It was snowing pretty heavily for much of the time that we were there - and that very slowly moving tailgate was a bloody nuisance. We cursed it daily.
