*As I mentioned earlier, when the timing belts get done make sure the top coolant outlet is done at the same time.
*I've now had 3 discos here with failed (over heated) engines just after the timing belt was replaced and the top outlet wasn't.
*The excuse was "its not listed in the timing belt schedule change" which is so comforting for the owners.
And bonkers not to replace water pump. They are so cheap and you’ve got to top up coolant afterwards anyway.Quote:

The previous owner gave me the option that they would do the service, but we instead negotiated on price that I'd do it. I think I should have estimated more than $2-3k.
I'll focus on the positive that as I'm getting the service done it'll include the recommended extras as suggested.
Thought I'd have about $5k left in the car budget for a few extras after stamp duty/insurance, but might be a bit less than that.
Will definitely be buying a tow hitch & side steps - any recommended suppliers in Perth?

Mine's a 2014 with 110,000kms and I just had the belts done by an independent - cost about $2,500 from memory. Transmission will be done at next service. I've also had new tyres this year so it's adding up ....Quote:

Hmmm. Well on cars where the water pump is behind the timing cover, and given the seals can wear and leak, it’s generally a no brainer when doing the timing belt. On a Disco however it’s easily gotten to without the timing belt being removed, so less of an issue. I changed mine when I did a coolant flush a couple of years back as a precaution.Quote:

My indie had a difficult time in doing the Oil Pump. Was a bit more fiddly. I decided on doing this with the belts though as I recall reading a "suggestion" that variable oil pressure in the engine as the pump wears "may be" a contributing factor in more wear on bearing surfaces, spun bearings and broken cranks. Maybe I'm just being over cautious but to me it seemed like a good idea. Also, they found after testing my Alternator was not functioning fully, so getting it done as well was a no brainer.Quote:
