Easily fixed by cutting in half a clear plastic self sticking floor protector (look for Pro-Tec like this PRO-TEC Surface Savers Clear 19mm 10pk – Madico floor and surface protection) and placing it over the half of the inner sensor facing the Mitch Hitch. Expect to replace it every year or so, but my ones have stayed put for three years.
I use the original hitch as no way am I paying 7 - 800 bucks for a bit of square tube knocked up in China. Nothing wrong with the LR item and I don't leave it in when not towing but I did hear someone had one break but I think it was second hand so who knows what treatment it'd had.

Not sure if you're referring to a post I made about 3 years back. A mate of mine with his 2016 D4 had his standard hitch fracture when towing his van in WA. It was not secondhand. However, he had done some 4WD previously and it may have hit a rock or two, so who knows. He has now sold his D4 and got a RAM as he is towing a van with an ATM of a bit over 4T.
Yes, receiver for the LR hitch is tucked up out of sight. Plastic cover hides it nicely. Get a plastic insert to stop dirt getting in (about 5 pounds from AF). The LR has no issues, I've towed across thr country including off road and never had an issue. Give it some TLC once in a while and all is good. Don't leave it in when not towing and offroading.
IMHO...
*If I was a towing type owner I would only trust a hitch that is a direct bolt on, not a tongue, wedge etc etc that may or may not come out at some point.
*I also believe there is something in the owners book about not leaving the hitch in when not in use (is it that prone to wear just sitting in situ?)
*I could think of a nothing worse situation than a large trailer or caravan coming a drift from the vehicle.
*Price a towbar for the average family car, not much different.

Was quoted $800 for the LR hitch so price wise there's not much between them.
I do like being able to remove the LR hitch & use the cover as I don't tow frequently - I'm also towing a third of the max tow rating. Might see if there's a way to cut a slot in the cover to leave just the hitch receiver exposed...
Thanks all for the advice - I picked up up the car yesterday & am looking forward to setting it up for touring trips once the bank balance recovers.
