I've put my D5 up for sale as while it is lovely to drive, it's never given me the same feeling as the D4 did. Looking around for alternatives taking into account the serious wait times for a brand new vehicle that a lowish kms late model D4 might be the best option. I've been looking at what is currently up for sale but the specifications and added options are hit and miss on the various websites. So I thought I'll have a look at the brochures for these model years to educate myself, would anyone have kept PDF copies of these?
Thanks
Ron

When's the latest crankshaft model coming out?
DL
I read somewhere that Ford sorted it before they started using the engine in the F150 MY 2018. And it stated that any modifications made would also benefit the other Manufacturers using that engine.
As for the D5, main issues I have are the boot being a bit tight for 3 golden retrievers. While we're down to 2 now, there will be a 3rd again at some stage. And there's only so many times you can bump your head on the tailgate corners, top of the front doors near the b pillar as it comes towards you when you open the door and on the A pillar which due to the raked windscreen is a lot closer to the B pillar than in a D4.
I don't like stop start and any fuel savings are debatable, but in my view completely outdone by having the ability to remote start the engine to cool down the interior for up to 30 minutes. AdBlue goes down quickly when towing the caravan so another thing to keep in mind and carry some spare depending on the trip. Steering is on the light side and steering wheel too thin. I can resolve all my gripes by getting a D4.
I do like the increase in performance compared to my D4 MY11 TDV6, but it never bothered me in the D4 - it's a 2.5T diesel 4WD not a sports car. And the Meridian sound system is great. The latter was the question I had regarding the D4, I see some TDV6 models having a rear view camera but there's no mention in the ad of the Meridian sound system. Which I now understand it does have as you can't have the rear view camera (or technology pack) without it.

Hi Ron,
I’ve found your comments very interesting as I have a D4 (my forth one) and we have taken the plunge and ordered a D5 which arrives in March 22. Can I ask you about the towing? Between the D4 and D5 was there a tangible difference in towing performance - not just torque, but also how stable the car(s) are on the road, resisting sidewind, pitching on undulating roads? This is the main reason we are moving to the D5, but we also love our 2016.5 HSE D4 so much we’re beginning to have second thoughts! Cheers Andrew
Hi Andrew,
I've not had any issues towing but can't compare it to towing with a D4 as we bought the twin axle "lightweight" Adria (2.12T max allowed weight) in March 2020 due to a holiday to Europe being cancelled. I picked it up from Adelaide when it was very windy around Nuriootpa, so much so I thought it better to go back via Adelaide hills. It wasn't quite as windy there but the van was surprisingly stable behind the car. The Mallee Highway (just past Tailem Bend to south of Balranald) was interesting as the tow bar rattled quite a bit. Alto fitted a sleeve in the hitch receiver and I put an M12 bolt in it to stop the rattling. Ever since it's been fine. Just be prepared that your Adblue level will drop twice as fast as without a van in tow.

You have always had to have the upgraded sound system that came with a fully functional touchscreen, in order to enable things like GPS and cameras. The earlier models used to have several variants of Harmon and Kardon but at some stage JLR changed to Meridian. I'm not sure if Meridian is any better than the H&K or whether it was just a bean counting exercise on behalf of JLR. I note that Mercedes Benz and BMW still offer an H&K unit as an upgrade.
