    Bonnet Stuck!

    Hi all

I’m hoping someone has clear instructions on how I can get my bonnet open on the D4? I pulled the lever and it isn’t releasing the hood. I can see it pulls the cable but there’s no real resistance. Had a bit of a google but wanted to ask here for advice since everyone’s been so bloody great while I’m setting up the D4 for touring.

    Any suggestions?

I don’t think I can get the grill off without the bonnet open and it’s very difficult to see the mechanism through the grill.

    Thanks!

Doesn't the grill just pull out from the front? It needs a fair tug but it may work and is worth a shot. Another option is to have someone try lifting the bonnet while you pull the lever, but by the sounds of it that may not work..

I’m pretty sure there are 4 clips across the top of the grill under the bonnet that need to be pushed down or in and then it pulls out. I just didn’t want to bust them pulling it out. But maybe you’re right?

    Appreciate the response Old Guy!

Yes, 4 clips that you need to push down to get the grille out. Can try a tent peg. Get someone to lift the bonnet whilst pulling on the latch. I suspect the cable has come out of the retaining clip, not letting the catch release. A tent peg or similar bent wire may help to pull the catch back enough to allow the pin to release.

I’m going to give that a try. Might try and wedge the bonnet open a bit and then see if I can get in there. Maybe I can release the clips for grill doing that too so I can see what’s going on.

    Thanks Eric

Don't try to pull the grill out with the bonnet closed.

As Eric posted, there are 4 clips, located at the top of the radiator and they can only be accessed with the bonnet already opened.

Ahh yes forgot about the clips! In my early very naive days I read somewhere to just pull the grill, it does work and I did not break the clips. So if you are in a really desperate situation, it may work for you. But there is a risk...

The cable should be accessible just behind the lever under the dash. You may need to remove the panel, but that is easy. I suspect the cable end has been dislodged from the lever. Just reconnecting it or pulling it with pliers should at least open the bonnet.

Not a bad earth to the bonnet release ECU or the relay, or the ECU itself?

    Codes on the fault reader?

Yeah, sorry for the attempted humour.

    Hi,
If the cable pulling does not work,
I did read about a fix once. from memory it was recommended using an inflatable air wedge to lift one side of bonnet.
starting on left hand side, when looking at the bonnet from front. Then using plastic spatula or similar to press grille release. When you get one side up, you can move along to the right.
    I hope this helps.
    best wishes
