Ghosting A/C and instrumentation

On hot days my 2012 D4 operating system "disappears". The temperature display goes, the a/c goes off and my indicators don't work.
Then they come back on and next I lose the whole centre display and the speedo arm doesn't work, and
then it all works again.
I have tightened up the earth lead and it still happens.
no codes come up when I checked.
Am I missing something obvious?
Will go back to working on my 88" for a while to calm down!

There are several earth points. This sounds like a failing alternator diode or battery or both...

Thanks Eric
The battery is fairly new and the obvious earth was checked. I will keep looking!
Thanks again

I'm with Eric on this. It sounds a bit like an alternator going. When mine went it did all sorts of weird rubbish. Turned things on and off, bring all the dash lights on, then lower the suspension, etc.

Mine was over voltage, testing at 15v and climbing up to almost 17 by the time i got back around to the drivers seat and switched her off.

If you have a multimeter handy next time it starts happening, might be worth testing the voltage at the battery.

Otherwise, yeah, chasing down the few earth points may be worth a crack.

Good luck mate,

Chris

Sounds like a cluster failure to me, more common on a D3 than D4 but still something to look at.
Thanks Chris and Eric,
Checked the alternator and it seems to be okay insofar of multimeter reading, the battery, however, read a bit sick on voltage. I changed the Varta battery in the vehicle and in new one on loan and I will see how it goes. It only happens after mid 30's temeratures so lets find out!!
My next step will be the alternator

Sounds similar to the issues ScottA & I are having with ours:
Discovery 4 electrics turn off while driving

I'll be picking up mine from the mechanic this afternoon following a major service, they haven't been able to identify the cause of the issue but have been through earth points & checked for loose connections as part of the service. Service will reset systems as well.

Will have to see if this is a fix, if not alternator, battery & BMS are next on the list of potential causes.

Thanks for that, new battery in mine yesterday and no issues for the first time in 3 days so here's hoping!!!
