Side step sellers and installers in Sydney

    Hi,

Looking for recommendations (sellers, installers, brands) for side steps for my 2016 D4 in Sydney (North West). Purpose is to mainly assist the kids in climbing in and out of the vehicle.

These are the top results that I am getting from Google:

Black Side Steps Bars Running Boards for Land Rover Discovery 4 09-15 OEM Style | BC Auto Sydney
SIDE STEPS suitable for LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3&4 2004-2017
Landrover Discovery 3 & 4 Side Steps Running Board Pair Aluminium Steel Brackets - Killa

Genuine LR ones are not off the table but only if the experienced owners can attest that the premium you pay translates to significant quality over after market ones.

I am also a bit handy so I can DIY, but if the cost to install isn't much (~$50-100) then I'd rather have them professionally installed.

    Thanks in advance!

I have had original LR side steps on my 2013 D4 since new. Mainly to help my disabled wife enter the car. I have had no problems with them at all but they are not suitable for serious bush bashing being aluminium. If it's simply to aid getting into the car, they, or the knock offs that look they same, will be fine with the caveat that the quality of knock offs is an unknown factor.

I'd also be interested to hear if anyone's got a set of non-genuine ones & their thoughts.
Just got quoted $1800 for originals by a dealer - I could go through 4 sets of nock-offs for that price!

For that price you may as well do the job properly and get APT from Queensland or even import ProSpeed from the UK. Both are excellently engineered and can be fitted easily by anyone capable of following straightforward instructions. Both also offer complete sill protection.

I like the look of the prospeed, but couldn't justify rock sliders as I can't see us taking the D4 where we'd need them (the 76 series at work gets all the fun). They'd be for same as Ponch23 - helping kids get into the car plus protection in car parks.

The dealer came back offering some aftermarket steps for $650 - I asked for photos but they've not got back to me. Probably cottoned on that I might see who makes them & find out the price without the LR mark-up.

I see that BC auto also have steel running boards for the same price as the OEM style:
Heavy Duty Black Steel Side Step Running Board for Land Rover Discovery 4 09-16 | BC Auto Sydney

I like the look but not sure on quality (ARi brand), suspect they might end up rusting. Has anyone dealt with BC or used the ARi brand?

    Did you find anything suitable?
I’ve just remembered I have a set of original LR side steps (I took them off to put APT rock sliders)…we can have a chat if you like…I’m in Northern suburbs of Sydney.
They aren’t strong enough for bush bashing…but are pretty strong for kid / adult stepping into the car.

    Side steps

Bush bashing aside, I have found the APT sliders better for getting into the car than the LR original side steps. It's a shame I threw the OEMs out figuring no-one would ever want them.

After stuggling to find a supplier with steps in stock I've ordered a set from PS 4x4 in Melbourne, $410 delivered to WA. Thought may as well give them a crack & see how they hold up.

After taking 5 weeks to get to Perth from Melbourne the steps finally arrived last week.

Coments on going with the cheap ($400) steps:
    • Steps arrived with no instructions & loose bolts, nuts etc in the box. PowerfulUK have a good instruction on youtube so at least I wasnt flying blind getting them on.
    • It took a significant number of hours to get them on as the steps didnt quite line up correctly to the brackets. Had to get creative with the grinder to make them fit.
    • Steps actually look ok, hold my weight, but dont expect anything more than original requirements (help kids into car & protect in car parks).

I'd recommend avoiding the low cost route, should have gone with something like the Kingsley Integra steps (around $800) - sold by local 4WD shop but was not in stock.
